Go Local is a program funded by the Orange County Transportation Authority to assist local agencies in identifying and developing ways of improving access to the County's Metrolink Commuter Rail system. Agencies can develop project concepts individually or in cooperation with other agencies. The goal of the program is to develop several potential projects within the County that can be further refined with the projects considered to have the most merit being selected for future phases. These studies could lead to future transit/ transportation projects in the County. Elected officials, city management, and staff from the cities of Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Stanton, and Westminster have explored ideas for an alternative study approach that would be acceptable to each of the agencies.
The revised Go Local concept is a more general study to look at a wider array of transit connection options. The study will focus on identifying the best opportunities that exist within the project area. Factors to be evaluated as part of the study include ridership potential and projections, financial feasibility, operational costs, integration with current projects and services, technology applications, and community needs.
A Request for Qualifications was sent to potential consultants to provide transit planning, projection and analysis services as part of the cooperative Go Local project. Qualification submittals are under review by each of the local agencies. The City of Westminster is acting as the lead agency in coordinating the project. Questions regarding the program or current status can be directed to Bob Stachelski, the City’s Transportation Manager at (714) 536-5431.
